Welcome to the Archivesadvisor WikiEdit

Compare record offices, archives and local studies around the UK.

Created by Dr Katrina Navickas, University of Hertfordshire.

This wiki gives info about:

  • opening hours, addresses, urls for the websites and catalogues, bus & train routes
  • charges for copying and photographing (how much are photocopies? Do I have to pay to use my digital camera?)
  • catalogues (are they online or is it better to turn up at the record office and look references up in paper copy files?)
  • refreshments and other facilities (do they have a cafe or do I need to bring a packed lunch? any good cafes nearby?)
  • access (do I need a CARN card, or do I have to register separately?)

Please help us fill in the information about your local archive/record office/local studies and keep it up to date! To edit and add info to the wiki, click on the 'edit' button to the right hand side of each table.

NB - at the moment I have ordered archives regionally, so there are only 4 partially-filled in tables at present: North West, Yorkshire/Humberside, Greater London, and Herts/Beds/Bucks. If you wish to include an archive from another region, please copy & paste the table in a new section.
